APPHA: Association for Primary & Preventive Healthcare Alliance
HEAL Foundation has been consistently providing health education to the Indian masses through its public health campaigns and measured health advocacy to bring health awareness that leads to healthy living for over one and a half decades. Adding another feather to its public health awareness and education cap, identifying that preventive care has spurred a clarion call for the entire healthcare ecosystem, HEAL Foundation by keeping Indian people at the centre to make them aware of preventive health, and educating them to move from curative care to preventive care to ensure a healthy living, has conceptualised – Association for Primary & Preventive Healthcare Alliance (APPHA).
Preventive care aims to avert predominantly lifestyle-oriented diseases. To best address population health at large, we need to balance preventive and curative measures and have better access to life-saving solutions. Moreover, preventive care is still on a back seat – both in terms of awareness about it in public, and the government’s healthcare expenditure on it, because a 2019 industry report brings out that ‘preventive healthcare’ accounted for a meagre 11 per cent of India’s overall healthcare expenditure.
Lack of awareness is one of the reasons hindering the potential growth of preventive healthcare and spending on it. This is where Association for Primary & Preventive Healthcare Alliance (APPHA) comes into play to connect the missing dots hampering flourishing primary healthcare and thwarting the adoption of preventive healthcare by bringing together all the stakeholders – Public Health Experts, Industry Experts, Healthcare Policy Makers, Institution and Organisations contributing in strengthening healthcare in India. APPHA invites all the stakeholders to come together and join hands to help bring a cultural transition by bringing behavioural change amongst the Indian masses towards the adoption of ‘Preventive Care.
